WHY DOES HORSEFLIGHT NEED MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER?
In the international freight world, the horse owner is referred to as the consignee of the horse. Any time a product is imported to or exported from the United States the name, address, and SSN of the consignee of the item must be provided in a document called the House Airway Bill. This is a legal requirement under U.S. Customs. We assure you that Horseflight will not release your personal information.
WILL THE HORSE BE SENT WITH A BLANKET?
If you purchased a blanket with the horse, it will be sent with one.
IF THE HORSE IS PURCHASED WITH ACCOMPANYING EQUIPMENT, CAN I EXPECT THAT EQUIPMENT TO TRAVEL WITH THE HORSE?
If there is equipment that you want transported with the horse, TWE must be notified so that we can ensure that it is listed on the airway bill and accounted for.
WHEN CAN I FIRST SEE THE HORSE AFTER IT ARRIVES IN THE UNITED STATES?
Due to heightened security and USDA quarantine regulations, the first opportunity you will have to look at your horse will be once it is ready for release from short term quarantine at the Animal Import Center. At your request and depending on port rules, Horseflight will take photos and video of your horse upon arrival at the airport. Many ports will not allow this so we apologize if we are unable to complete your request.
WILL MY HORSE BE TRANQUILIZED DURING THE FLIGHT?
In most cases, no. The only situation in which a horse will be tranquilized during transport is if the decision is made that the horse has become a danger to itself or to other horses or to people. If your horse is ever tranquilized during transport, you will be notified immediately.
WHY DON'T YOU HAVE A PRICE LIST FOR TRANSPORT POSTED ON YOUR WEBSITE?
There are too many variables in international horse transport to list shipping prices. In the same way that the purchase price of an airline ticket can change daily, so can the cost of shipping a horse. Horseflight will always make an effort to give you the most competitive rate possible. Give us a call anytime and we will discuss your shipment with you.
WHEN IS PAYMENT REQUIRED?
For first time customers, payment is required in advance of scheduling your shipment. For customers with established accounts with Horseflight, timing of payments can be adjusted in order to fit the needs of the customer best.
HOW LONG IS THE SHIPPING PROCESS?
Lengths of the shipments vary by location. Horseflight makes an effort to avoid any delays in the shipping process. Typically the trip from barn, to truck, to airplane, to truck, to quarantine is a sequential process, with intervals of only a few hours between legs. For a shipment from Europe, the travel time for a horse from the seller’s barn to quarantine in Newburgh, New York, is between 30 and 40 hours.
HOW ARE THE HORSES CARED FOR ON THE PLANE?
A certified groom is assigned to travel with the horses to ensure that they are comfortable and have adequate water and hay.
